Inspirations
Johnny's core belief is that a person's private space is a reflection of his or her personality. By looking into a person's living space, we gain a deeper understanding of the individual's life story. Johnny takes inspiration from a variety of creative role models. Below are some of his influences:
Architecture
Johnny has always been fascinated with minimalist and linear design. Joseph Eichler had a major influence on mid-century architecture. The idea of open floor plans and large, open glass partitions are the bases of his design. Exploring our website will give you a glimpse into Eichler's style as it has inspired many of Johnny's designs.
Art
In the 1980's Patrick Nagel was synonymous with high fashion and art. Many television shows and movies have used his art pieces for establishing themes and settings. Some musicians have even used his work as cover art for their albums. "Poster art" is the best description for Nagel's work, and Johnny is heavily influenced by his use of crisp colors and fine lines. These stylistic tools help Johnny to produce unique focal points through the use of contrasting themes.
Furniture
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was one of the great pioneers of modernist architecture. His impact may be measured by the numerous copies of his most popular chairs, "Barcelona" and "Brno." He also coined the phrase "less is more," a motto that Johnny firmly believes in. Mies' work especially inspires Johnny's approach to space and decor.
